South African Charlie Vundla scooped Best Director and his debut, film noir thriller How 2 Steal 2 Million, was named Best Film at the eight Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), held last night, 22 April 2012, at The Expo Centre, Eko Hotel & Suite in Lagos, Nigeria.
The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), the continent's most prestigious awards for filmmakers, has received 328 entries from across Africa, up from 220 in 2011. This includes 134 feature films, 88 short films, 57 documentaries and six animations. 43 entries came from Africans in the Diaspora, with the rest coming from 23 countries across the continent.
The Africa Film Academy is set to empower 1000 youths in its quest to promote capacity in different aspects of film making and promote the growth of the motion picture industry is set to train over 1000 youths across the continent over the next 12 months.
The African Movie Academy Awards founded in 2005 celebrated their 7th edition on March 27th 2011. Held annually in Nigeria, the AMAAs is without doubt becoming the most prestigious and glamorous African entertainment industry event of its kind on the Continent.
