Budding filmmakers and those in the business who want to sharpen their skills now have an opportunity to attend an innovative three-month course in Soweto.

The course will be presented by the film division of the Soweto Performing Arts Centre based in Orlando West. It will take place only during weekends.

It will be facilitated by top writer, producer and director Feizel Mamdoo. The course content includes concept development, research skills, scriptwriting, production, budget development, directing, camera techniques, sound, editing, IP and basic entertainment law.

At the end of the course, each participant will be expected to produce a 10-minute documentary which will be presented at the first youth documentary film festival in Soweto in November.

The centre's director, Basil Dube, said: "We will also explore other local markets such as the M-Net's New Directions, Commex, Durban International Film Festival and Fespaco to reach out to African audiences."

Those who wish to register for the course are invited to attend a compulsory briefing session at FEPACI, Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, Newtown, on May 15 at 10am.
