Durban actress, dancer and model Kajal Bagwandeen stars in the locally produced comedy film Jozi. Bagwandeen, 26, plays Nadine, a colourful but neurotic young woman studying law.
Jozi, which stars Carl Beukes, Lionel Newton, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Nick Boraine, Robert Whitehead, Fiona Ramsay and Meren Reddy, revolves around James (played by Beukes), a successful comedy writer who lives in Johannesburg and has lost his sense of humour. By Taschica Pillay
The film follows his journey as he tries to recapture his sense of humour and his ability to love and laugh again.
The film - to be released on February 26 - was shot in Johannesburg and is directed by Craig Freimond and produced by Anant Singh, Helena Spring and Robbie Thorpe.
Bagwandeen said she loved the wit and sense of humour of the script.
"It was something I had not seen in a long time. It's definitely a comedy for everyone. The actors were lots of fun to be around, and there was never a dull moment," she said.
"Everyone in the cast and crew was friendly and professional. Craig is a fabulous director and conveyed his vision of the characters to us with great ease, yet at the same time allowing us to develop them a bit more on our own."
She is looking forward to the big-screen release of two movies this year, Jozi and For Better for Worse, a romantic comedy.
Best-known as the presenter of the SABC2 magazine show Dharma Moments, Bagwandeen has featured in productions such as Thunsil, Jimbo, Chalo Cinema, Chakraview, Bombay Crush, Sophiatown, De Compleat Hstry of Durban and various radio dramas on Lotus FM.
