Videovision Entertainment’s head of Acquisition and Distribution, Sanjeev Singh announced today that the film, Song for Marion which will have its World Premiere as the Closing Night film of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, has been acquired by Videovision Entertainment for distribution in South Africa. The film which stars veteran British screen stars, Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp is written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton).
Set in London, Song for Marion is a comedic drama, about a shy grumpy 72 year old Arthur (Terence Stamp) whose wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) convinces him to join an unconventional local choir, which results in Arthur becoming a late bloomer, and who in the process, learns to love life again.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Academy Award Winner Celine Dion and multiple Academy Award Nominee, Diane Warren have collaborated on Unfinished Songs, an original song composition especially for Song For Marion.
Diane Warren commented, “Unfinished Songs is amongst more than a dozen collaborations with Celine Dion including Because You Loved Me, and the song fits well with Song For Marion”. I hope that Unfinished Songs may lead to that elusive Oscar, as I am a six time loser, so maybe this is my lucky seventh!”
Commenting on the acquisition, Sanjeev Singh said, “We are delighted to have acquired the rights to distribute Song For Marion in South Africa, ahead of its World Premiere as the Closing Night Film at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday (15 September). The film received a standing ovation at a private industry screening prior to its World Premiere and we anticipate that the film will have wide appeal in South Africa as it is both a tear jerker and a very uplifting film.”
Videovision Entertainment will be releasing Song For Marion through United International Pictures, early in the New Year.
