Cilla Lowen, based in Cape Town, has thirty-three years' experience in communications. She holds a Masters Degree in General Linguistics and has a background in Anthropology.
Cilla's earlier works include a TV series of 8 episodes on Basic Health Education which achieved SATV Silver Award for the series. Her documentary 'AIDS - A New War in Africa', achieved SATV Gold Award and was an Avante Award finalist. It has been translated into 6 languages.
More recent successes are a docudrama feature script, 'A Mother's Legacy', that achieved Best Script Award at the Socially Relevant Film Festival in New York in 2016. The feature has Sara Blecher as Director.
Her Sitcom pilot, 'Harry's Harvest', was listed as a semi-finalist (half-point from from finals) in the USA TV Writer Spec Scriptacular run by Larry Brody, also in 2016.
Cilla's screenplay, 'The Handyman', a faith-based Made-for-TV- Movie, was a finalist in the Writers' Guild of SA 2016 Muse Awards, TV Drama - Spec Script category.
In 2016 she also completed a VR immersive script for Dubai Frame's Past and Future Zones (Dubai Municipality) for Wicked Pixels as well as a 26 x 5 minute Sitcom short-format series, 'The Bellos', for KMP Productions. This is Africa's first short-format sitcom series.
She has recently completed a script adaptation of a comedy/drama feature for WeDo Film Productions (London), for production by Kalahari Pictures with director Darrell Roodt. Currently, she's working on a true-life crime drama, 'Like Moths to a Flame', for Box Screen Pictures and director Alfons Adetuyi that will be a SA/Canada co-production.
In 2018 Cilla entered the field of animation with her short 'Ingwe' - the leopard who didn't want spots.
