Al Jazeera highlight: Pakistan: No Place Like Home

Sharif

29-year-old cotton farmer Sharif has lived in the remote Pakistani village of Hakimwala all his life, until rising debt forces the village elders to send him to Dubai in search of fortune. So far, so familiar, but what happens when the novelty and promises of the cosmopolitan world wear thin, and Sharif starts to discover that actually there's no place like home?

He returns to face a disappointed village that's bet everything on him succeeding, rather than returning with even more debts. Now, more than ever, Sharif needs to rely on his good-nature and kind disposition to seek a path to redemption.

Pakistan: No Place Like Home screens on 27 April 2016 on Al Jazeera English at 1830 CAT on Witness, Al Jazeera English's inspiring documentary series that brings world issues into focus through compelling human stories. For more information, visit http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/witness/.
